NCCL Executive Director faxed the following letter to Bishop Michael, postulator of the cause of canonization of the servant of God, Archbishop Andrij (Andrew) Sheptytsky.
The question is pertinent not only to Eastern Catholics of the Kievan-Rus (Ukrainian) Catholic Church, but also to those Catholics in particular of the Western churches who are also called ‘traditional’.
For Kievan Catholics the Pope’s historical act bears to this day much importance for the eventual recognition by the Holy See of the Ukrainian Catholic Church as a patriarchate.
For western ‘traditional’ Catholics, the same acts are important inasmuch as they refresh confidence in the solicitude, in principle & practice, of the Holy See of Rome for their own, similar “legitimate aspirations” to restore the Roman liturgical and spiritual patrimony to them.
