The doctors care

American and Ethiopian physicians correspond and cooperate to save Assefa’s life.

Mignot Belay Lulu, MD
Director – Kidney Center
St. Yared General Hospital
Addis Ababa, ETHIOPIA

Esteemed and dear Dr. Mignot,

thank you very much for the prompt reply (copied below), which I and my colleagues have delivered to Dr. Mangan and to Dr. Kornetsky.

Please permit me to convey the following questions or requests from them:

1. Has Assefa been tested again (since February/March) for hepatitis C? If yes, could you please share with them the results? If not, might he please be tested again for it?

2. Is it feasible that St. Yared Hospital arrange a blood sample to be sent ahead to India, for HLA typing, before the Baraki Boys go to Ahmedabad?

3. Concerned by the readings of the test of Robiel’s ALP (407) and PT (15.5), Dr. Mangan asks whether the cause of the high levels have been identified? — they being signs (as surely you know) usually of a liver ailment or a dietary deficiency.

4. Also, could Robiel please be tested again for readings of ALP and PT?

5.  If it is not asking too much, could the report which you sent to Dr. Praful (as per your e-mail of August 3) be sent also to Drs. Mangan and Kornetsky?

I can pass it to them. But if you wish to send it to them directly, their e-mail addresses appear next to their names, below.

(In that case, I would ask only that you send to me at the same time a copy, so that I can alert the Doctors, by phone, to retrieve it.)

With renewed thanks, dear Dr. Mignot, I am —

Sincerely & respectfully,
Gregory Lloyd

Dear Mr.Lloyd,

Thank you for your reply. I will be happy and willing at anytime to answer any questions regarding patient Assefa. The nephrologists and hepatologists can contact me directly if they have any questions. I also suggest that it is better if the nephrologist and hepatologists contact Dr.Praful at Appolo hospital for further informations and regarding the recent lab tests as I ve already sent it to them. Thank you.

Esteemed and dear Dr. Mignot,

thank you very much for the prompt reply, which I hereby ask my colleague, Mr. Elms, to forward to Dr. Kornetsky immediately.

1. Dr. Kornetsky has received an assessment from the hepatologist, Dr. Mangan, who is also advising The Baraki Family. I therefore expect that Dr. Kornetsky will be posing more questions to you in the near future, whether directly (with your permission) or through me.

2.a. If you believe it would be useful for Dr. Kornetsky & Dr.
Mangan to receive the report (of the tests on Assefa, July 23) which you have sent to Apollo Hospital in Ahmedabad (as per your e-mail, below), please feel free to forward the same report to me, and I shall pass it along to the doctors straight away.

2.b If you would rather send it directly, I shall ask Mr. Elms for
Dr. Kornetsky’s e-mail address.

Please advise me.

Until then, please accept my repeated thanks — on behalf of all of Assefa’s loved-ones — for your life-saving compassion and care.

Most respectfully, Gregory
