The communique copied below comes only moments ago from a missionary Priest in the United States, a native of Irob, Ethiopia.
See the other posts, below, relating the widespread suffering in that impoverished and war-torn region in the ‘Horn of Africa’.

Dear Mr. Greg,
My sister Desta has been seriously injured, and needs medical treatment urgently.
On June 12, 2014 the roof of the mud-roofed hut where she is staying in the town of Alitena, while a refugee from the war-zone in Irob, collapsed: breaking her right hand and right foot, and causing trauma also to her head. Her sons, aged about 12 & 13, escaped without serious injuries, thanks be to God.
Her husband Tesfay Gebru, my brother-in-law, is away: separated due to military violence and prolonged draught conditions: in our native village of Awo, doing as much farming as he can under the circumstances.
But you know how poor and in need they are. Like so many thousands of others.
The good Sisters of Charity, as I told you, are doing what they can to help her in hospital, to live up to the name of their Order.
The Sisters assure my younger brother, Mesfin Debessay Kahsay, over there that they will do all they can to help mend her broken bones. I ask you to phone Sr. Desta Abraha at 0025-1 912-021-805 to receive a full report. According to the best estimates now, my sister will need about three months to heal and minimum 15,000 ETH Birr to pay the doctors. [approx. $765 US, ed.]
That is only which I would give in a moment, except you know that my entire family of refugees and I, too — we all are destitute. Could you please ask the benefactors of NCCL apostolate share in the life saving case?
Christ has promised, God will reward them. Charity loves charity.
I weep but not as one without hope.
Please ask them to be generous.
Rev. Fr. Eyassu (Joshua) Debessay
